Mozilla firebox hangs after some time i started browsing on it.
 

Hi All,

I am newbie to Linux.I had just install fedora 10 on ma desktop having xp on it. After so much of googling i am able to connect net on it.I have broadband connection.
"Now when i open Mozilla firebox and starts surfing there,after 2 or 3 minutes it got hanged and after that i am not able to do anything.I have to restart my PC."
Plz tell me what should i do now???

I presume you are not browsing as root.
If you haven't done so since install. Start X once as root. No need to do anything, but it sometiomes fixes issues.
rm -rf ~/.mozilla
rm -rf ~/firefox

and then try it.

But my problem is still not solved.when i am trying to run
startx as root then i am getting an error given below.
[root@localhost ~]# startx
xauth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.2925


Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

when firebox got hanged ,after some time i can move ma cursor everywhere but i cant do anything.Atlast i have to reboot ma pc..

OK, you're in runlevel 5. Log in as root, and then log in as yourself again.

Then open an xterm and run these exact lines
rm -rf ~/.mozilla
rm -rf ~/.firefox

That will remove all the home directories. Than start at the top, and install flash and java plugins

Sir i am newbie to Linux. I will be really thankful to you,if you explain me the things like runlevel 5 & how these commands remove home directory.
Log in as root means during booting,should i gave root password to it rather than giving my normal password??

After googling i found somewhere, that by changing browser this problem can b resolved, so i install ie6 but still it did not resolve.
Last day i was not using mozilla but i was using net on terminal,still after half an hour ma pc got hanged as it hangs during the use of mozilla..

plz explain me in detail Sir..

IE6 is about the worst browser around these days and will not run on a linux system.

close firefox. Issue the 2 commands I gave you and try it again.

I run both of the commands after closing my firebox and these commands runs successfully.Then i was installing plugins but it was giving me an error that your download directory have not enough space to install it.

suddenly after 1 hour it hangs again sir n then i was not able to do anything, so i restart ma pc again.

You shouldn't be running as root.

And it's Firefox, not Firebox.

Post the output of df -h

Plugins are not big. Not having space to download a plugin is weiurd.

Hi Dharmender to my experience Firefox hangs up with Fedora as in some case with Centos.Sometimes the browser crashes.If u are looking for a stable web browser i would suggest you to go with Opera.Its good and stable as with linux distribution.Hope this helps you.

Thanks for giving some time to my problem sir.I am newbie to
Linux. Plz tell me how to install opera because most of the time i run yum install command i got an error that an another process is runnin.Then after killing that process ,i got some other process of such kind..

I will b really thankful if you give me basic commands to do that.

Note that Opera is not open source.

Another disadvantage related to this is that because it isn't open source, a lot of Linux distros are very reluctant to include it or make it easy to install.

Midori is a good browser, but once I tried installing it in Fedora and it caused some really weird issues, including popups from Adobe Reader (which I didn't have installed!) in strange languages. But no such creepy issues with Midori in Arch Linux. Perhaps there was something wrong in the Fedora repository.

Konqueror is also pretty good.

I had problems running Firefox where I'd open up a bunch of tabs and it would run Sloooooooooooooooooooooooooow, but not crash or hang (if I had the patience). Well, I was running Mint7 on a 128MB laptop and it probably just couldn't handle it. I installed Mint 8 LXDE, and now Firefox runs happier than it did in Windows XP.

Ya MTK358 is right .You could also try with Konqueror which comes up with the installation media.Its good.If you are intented to go with Opera

Select your distribution and try installing the package(Opera*****.rpm) with the command

$Let me know the error if any.

I think your repository is configured with some Update URL like fedora update links for which the yum is trying to update with the fedora update server.You can disable the repository for time being by changing the parameter enabled=0 in the repo file (/etc/yum.repos.d/Your_Repo_File or Try with rpm command mentioned above.

[dharmender@localhost ~]$ rm -rf ~/firefox

i do this after closing my browser,still my problem is not resolved.

try this: find firefox-bin Slamd has it in /usr/lib64/firefox-version

Then run ldd /path/to/firefox-bin |grep found
That will output libraries you are missing. find them.
