Move apr & apr-util install locations?

Being the Linux newbie that I am, I was following an online how-to for installing APR & APR-util in order to get Apache installed.

I installed apr-util to the /usr directory, and apr to /usr/local/apr

1) when I do an ls in /usr, I don't see apr-util, is it automatically installed where it finds apr (/usr/local/apr)?

2) I have Apache unpackaged in /usr/local/src and I'm under the impression that I needed to do the same with apr, is this correct?

Any guidance is appreciated!

Normally (& especially as a newbie), you wouldn't do it that way.
Just about all distros have a pkg mgr of some kind that will do the install for you, automatically taking into acct any dependencies.
Tell us what distro & version you have.
If you are not sure, try these cmds

cat /etc/*release*

The main issue I'm having is that this box is on our network. They have us so locked down as far as being able to install from repos it's unreal. As such, the best way for me to get a lot of this installed is to do so from source.
