Hi can anyone tell me why my mouse wheel will only scroll one way? I have Suse 10.0 I had a look in the hardware set up can't find what to change. thanx Adrian
In terminal mode you can run xorgconfig to reconfigure the mouse more accurately than the choice selected by Suse. I haven't done it with Yast but believe you can do it there too. The xorgconfig is universal and works in all recent distros. If you are experienced enough you can just edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf directly the mouse parameters as xorgconfig goes through the video, monitor and keyboard too.
If the mouse is getting worst or fails to work just press crtl+alt+backspace. This drops you back to Bash shell and so you can re-edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf again. When you have save the file type "startx" will kick start the GUI desktop again. Just keep trying until your mouse runs faster than a cat.
Hi saikee, thanks for reply, the mouse works in XP and used to work ok in suse, its configured correctly as a microsoft wireless mouse. As I am new to Linux I am not sure where to go now to fix it? Is it possible I installed a package with a conflict that has caused it? Adrian
Have you tried Yast yet? or click terminal and run
xorgconfig
The mouse drivers in Linux are generic type.
It is possible if you update Suse's kernel then the mouse may suffer as a consequence because the drivers were compatible with the previous version of the kernel. However It doesn't appear to me that users would have a need to change Suse 10.0 Kernel 2.6.13 to the 2.6.15 avaialble in Suse 10.1. The kernel is the only one that I know can hit the mouse.
tried yast a few times. I just tried peripherals in control panel and ticked the box to use reverse direction on the scroll and it did but wouldn't go the other way? does this help? I started working through panel but wasn't sure of all the stuff to type in so I aborted that rather than cause more problems.
