Time to show my newbiness........

I have a standard ps/2 type mouse with a "scroll" button. Problem is I can't seem to get the scroll wheel to work. It's only a small problem but it's driving me crazy!

Any help would be appreciated. THe OS is RedHat 7.1

There have been many, many threads on a similar nature.

A simple search should help.

or if you add:
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
in the core pointer (mouse) section and restart your X server it should work without problems
Hope that helps

I apologise. I wasn't aware of the search feature. Thanks for your help.

Sorry, just re-read my post...sounded a little rude...sorry man. I didn't mean to come across that way, just that so many questions have been asked so many times...

If you weren't aware of the search facility, might I make the suggestion that you drop Jeremy a note saying that as a newly registered newb, you weren't aware of all the features of this site...can only go to make this site better.

As a complete side-note, I would advise you ditch RH7.1 and either go down to 7.0 or preferably up to 7.2...there are many, many bugs and known problems with 7.1 (such as the ominous GCC bug). Should make life easier in the long run.

Take it easy.

That's cool. It's just a little hard for me to go from being rather knowledgeable on Bill's Windows OS to a total newbie when it comes to Linux. I'm rather quick to anger and have to "swallow my pride" and start all over again. Everyone tells me it will be worth it in the long run.....Time will tell!

Anyway, I appreciate you reply and a quick search soon had the problem solved...

Also, I just upgraded from RH 7 to RH 7.1 and found it a little easier. Actually, it inspired me to give Linux another try. Little things like screen resolution really annoyed me with RH 7 and I just gave up. This time I got the install right and everything's a hell of a lot better...We'll see how I go and I apologise up front for the stupid questions that are about to appear. Although I now know to use the search feature....
