Mouse problem
Ok so i installed RH9 during the installation the keyboard and mouse worked fine. both ps/2. then when i restart to finish config Kudzu comes up and says hardware removed. Generic ps/2 wheel mouse. but i didnt change anything. my choices are remove config, keep config, do nothing. Then it does the same thing for the generic keyboard. if i select the keep config it continues to boot and gets to the basic config screen but i cant hit the next button. mouse wont move and keyboard doesnt work. What should i do? this is the second time ive formatted and reinstalled with the same problem. How can i get it to work?

don't waste your time re-installing - it won't fix the problem
what happens if you remove the config and continue on? does it detect new hardware? what happens if you do nothing? |
if i remove it, nothing happens
Just no mouse nor keyboard control if i hit I to start interactive startup the keyboard works, but when i get to the basic config, theres no control any suggestions? |
after removing it, when it gets to the part where it boots mouse it says /dev/mouse not there. then i hooked up a serial mouse and it didnt detect it. it just proceeds to the login screen but i cant type anything and the mouse is frozen. what should i do?

just to make sure - what is the result from selecting each of the following;
remove config = does not detect mouse after removal keep config = ? do nothing = ? what kind of motherboard is this? do you have another keyboard to try? |
In order to try each of those i have to format and reinstall.
Remove config- dev/mouse directory is removed. Login screen loads but i cannot move mouse or type. Keep config- continues to to the login and no mouse or keyboard control. do nothing- continues to to the login and no mouse or keyboard control but lets me enter kuduz again on reboot. its a tyan p2 dual processor motherboard. Last bios update in 1998. There are no more recent bios updates. Is this board too old? yes i tried a different keyboard and different mouse. Neither made a difference. |
I have this same exact problem. If i go to runlevel 3 and don't let it start the GPM service, the keyboard is fine. If the GPM service starts, the keyboard is gone. As soon as I start xwindows, I lose the keyboard\mouse again. It really is a great 'feature', but how do I remove it?
