Are the usbmodules loaded?

Paste the output of
lsmod
here, please...

If they are, don't re-install, try to

rm /dev/mouse
ln -s /dev/input/mice /dev/mouse

ok, will try later.

btw, how to bring up the terminal in KDE? Tried alt+ctrl+f2, but don't know how to go back to KDE.

Alt-F2, type console enter
(it's the KDE equivalent of Windows-Key + R)
to open a console...

To switch back to your DM session, Alt-F7 ;)
