Angry mouse doesnt work with linux


i am having trouble with mouse after linux instalation on an old pc..i have tried different distros of linux, but i cant get my mouse to work..it doesnt move..its a serial two button mouse..i have only used linux on vmware so i never had this problem.. i have tried to install freebsd , pcbsd, backtrack puppylinux...etc etc.. sometimes the x windows doesnt startup ,sometimes the mouse doesnt work.. what should i do.. ?
my pc spec.. cyrix m2 processor.256mb ram,6gb hdd..plz help..

That's quite the old-school machine.

If it's a serial mouse, it may be that your distros don't load the serial modules for your mouse any longer (since new mice are USB or PS2). My suggestion is to try something a little easier to 'test' with like a Knoppix LiveCD. The other thing you might try is:
modprobe serial
before starting X. If it works, depending on your distro, you can set it to auto probe that module during bootup.

thanks for the reply but the problems still remains...why cant linux even recognize a serial mouse? i am sick of linux..i have installed windows xp,win 98 and windows 2000 in this old pc, but cant get linux to install properly.. mission impossible!
