Mounting NTFS partitions for read/write in Debian
 

Hi,

I'm new to Linux and have just installed Debian 4.0 on my PC. I managed to install ntfs drivers and added some lines to /etc/fstab to mount them upon booting. So far so good, except I cannot write to these drives. I then tried installing ntfs-config and disk-manager, both of which installed ok (I think). I can mount the partitions in disk-manager, but when I click "Enable Write Support" they disappear. I also get this message when starting disk-manager from root terminal:

Can anyone help with this?

I dont know why it didnt post it the last time .. But i will write it again ..

There is a problem writing on ntfs drive . I know there is a diff' between kernel 2.4 and 2.6 . I think i read somewhere that the 2.6 kernel support ntfs write by default . But since i just got into the same problem as you , and i'm having the 2.6 kernel . It was probably not true .

You can google about "ntfs linux write " and it will probably give you the answer "ntfs-3g" drive . I'm just about to download and install it , but i think it will do the trick . You can found it on -

you can even found debian pack for it on :

It should give you the write ability . But i just about to try it .. and i let you know .

p.s

Its possible that the ntfs-3g driver will cause a disk error and data lost on the ntfs(widows) drive . Take it under consider ..
