Mounting DVD thru Samba?

I have an iBook which does not have a DVD drive - however, I want to install some software which is only contained on a DVD. Can install this remotely using my Linux box (which does have a DVD drive) - with or without Samba?

I think I should. However, its not clear that my DVD drive can even read the DVD. ls /media/dvd produces message 'No medium found'

There are many ways to automatically or manually mount a dvd/cd. It looks like you are using one of the automatic variants. Maybe a little more information about your distribution or how the dvd gets mounted would help.

And yes it is possible to share the dvd drive through samba.

I'm using Suse 9.3 on an old i386 box; my dvd device name is MATSHIT ADVD-ROM SR-8544A (this is what YAST tells me its detected - it is an old DVD player, probably purchased in 2000.

My Samba code to share the dvd:
[dvd]
comment = Linux DVD
path = /media/dvd
locking - no
preexec = /bin/mount /media/dvd
postexec = /bin/mount /media/dvd
