mounting cdrom in redhat 9

I just installed Redhat 9 on a e-machine with a pentium 400mhz, 128mb and the cdrom is a samsung src-3232 I'm having trouble getting the cdrom to mount. Everytime I put a piece of media in it, it locks up the whole machine. I go into the command line and type mount /dev/cdrom mnt/cdrom or mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom and then I get errors that say wrong fstype, bad superblock. I only get those messages if it doesn't lock up which it usually does during the mount process. I also tried to mount it using the automount tool in KDE, but the same problem persists. If someone could help that would be great.

Thanks

Have you tried mounting the installation CD?

what i'm getting at is that the cd may actually be the wrong fstype...that is it may be created using "Juliet" which as far as i know is solely a windows standard....
