Mounting a windows XP partition in FC1

Hi, I use Fedora Core 1 and want to know how I can go about mounting my ntfs Windows XP Pro partition... I have tried using

mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt/windows

but it tells me that my kernel does not support ntfs... so how do I make it support ntfs???

this been asked many time shame ppl are lazy

but anyway ur kernel is 2.4+ and doesnt have built in support for ntfs the built in ntfs support is in 2.6+ kernel so 2 ways u can do this:

1.compile 2.6+ kernel from source
2.download and install ntfs support for linux from linux ntfs project ,download the rpm that matches ur kernel version u do this by doing "uname -s" in the terminal and then installing the rpm using the command "rpm -ivh file.rpm"

GoodLuck

i would recommend u compile the new 2.6+ kernel wich can be downloaded from kernel.org and this is due to the fact 2.4+ kernel has major security vulnerability's that were fixed in 2.6+ kernel ,just for ur basic info the kernel of linux is allways being devloped and in the works for better faster work of linux its being devloped and improoved all the time by Linus Torvalds and also many ppl that helps him add new stuff and improove it, even when he has kids and even when he has a job he still manges to find the time to work on the kernel and he doesnt do it for money!! unlike some rich ppl with gate$ and window$ .
compiling the 2.6+ kernel isnt very hard if u read and learn enough so u wont come accross any errors i suggest u read DrOzz Great Compiling 2.6+ Kernel Guide ,also another good place to read is Migrating to Linux kernel 2.6 Guide .those are 2 very good places to start

goodluck may the source be with you
