mounting...


when you mount somthing such as /dev/fd0 /root does that mean that it copies the entire contents of the floppy to /root?

not at all.... that would try to mount the floppy drive AS /root which is not possible as the directory isn't empty. you really shouldn't try things like that... always use a proper available mount point, e.g. /mnt/floppy. read the man page for mount for information about this

oh thanks...i just thought it copied the contents and dumped in to a directory...so how would i get somthing from a floppy to the harddisk...usuing the cp command or the mv command?

well seeing as cp = copy and mv = move... which ever suits you best.... have you bookmarked the rute users guide in my siganture? covers all these sorts of issues superbly
