Is there an fstab entry for it? Is it mounted? Do you have permissions for it?

sorry i'm new at this so i don't quite understand what your asking in the first bit. /data is a folder where i want to store my files and the mount point is /mnt/storage. is this what your asking for. SORRY if i'm not saying anything new and just repeating myself, i haven't been doing this long enough to "speak linux" yet.
fstab entry? --> yes its the one at the bottom: '/dev/hdb5' (see below). and when i type "df -h" in Konsole hdb5 is shown. As far as i can tell it is mounted. (and in KDE when i right click it gives the option to unmount so i'm assuming this is a good indication that it is mounted)
Permissions for it? --> the /data folder has permission as follows:
user: jay
group: users
its when i'm logged in as jay this problem occurs. i can read/write to the /data folder but i can't see anything.
i hope this is the right/useful info.
thank you for your help
Jay
