mount usb mouse after xwindows starts

I have a laptop with debian sarge installed. I often forget to plugin my usb mouse when booting. Once inside a gnome session if i plug my mouse in it does not automatically get mounted. I have to restart XWindows (ctrl+alt+backspace) in order for this to happen, but this means that i loose my current session.

Its not a serious problem just a bit of a niggle. Thought that someone might have an easy solution, a command that mounts a usb mouse at runtime?

Thanks in advance

max

In my understanding, you aren't mounting the mouse device. It's likely getting recognized when you plug it in, but the Xorg/Xfree driver isn't getting loaded because there was no device when it started up, hence the need for the XFree reload. You can save your 'session' with the 2 big Desktop Environments (KDE/Gnome) if that's what you are using, otherwise, a CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE is probably necessary, I don't know of another way to load xorg modules after the X server has been started other than to restart it and have it reload the modules.

HTH

Cool
