Ok, here is my question... I was using mandrake and I installed RedHat 7.1. I didn't have a problem with this in mandrake but I need to mount cdrom manually, (or select automatically mount when the cd is inserted from a menu) but I can not eject the cd from cdrom. Can somebody explain me how this works? Is there a way to do this automatically? I am sure this must have been covered in this forum a million times but any detailed explanation is appreciated. Thanks.

Did you try
umount /mnt/cdrom
?

you can always usually use

Code:

# eject
as well.

Opaque I think the basic problem you have is the same as mine. Mandrake use supermount, Redhat don't.

Supermount is excellent it allows you to just insert and eject CD's and they get mounted/umounted automajically.

You could go to the supermount home page and patch the RH kernel, or you could add 'user' as one of the options for the cdrom entry in /etc/fstab. That should allow users to mount/umount the CD's.

I am running RH 7.1 and am going to try and patch my kernel, I'll let you know how it goes.
