Mount \home\<username> from server to all other linux machines

I'm new to linux and can't seem to figure out how to do this.

I have a number of servers which authenticate against my windows domain. There is one particular server (let's call it mainserver) that users of our computer cluster log into. When they log in for the first time, a directory \home\<username> is created.

Users are submiting jobs to our computer cluster through torque and the torque computation nodes need access to the contents of the \home\<username> folder on mainserver.

I have tried to share the \home folder on mainserver using nfs and it is successfully mounting on the computation servers, but on the computation servers I can't access the mounted \home\<username>, even when logged in as <username> due to permission issues.

Is there a way to do this?

Post the following info:

1. distro & ver of both systems
2. contents of nfs exports file
3. show cli attempt to mount/read export from the client; include all cmds/msgs

NB: for nfs the 'user' on both ends must have the same uid, the username is not significant. Remember, like DNS, it's all done with numbers under the skin.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply. I found out that my UID's were different on the different machines. On one machine I was using Kerberos/NIS to authenticate and on the other I was using samba/winbind and that resulted in differed UID's on the different machines. Once I switched to using Kerberos/NIS on all of the machines, everything worked as expected. Thanks for your help.
