It seems that the floppy itself is corrupted. try to read the floppy from another PC or another system (maybe Windows) just to verify that it fails there as well.

Also verify if the floppy drive is OK, by reading another floppy disk.

Arch Linux

Please try if @ boot it does get recognized using this command:

dmesg | grep -i floppy

if you get: "floppy0: no floppy controllers found".

Then the floppy support has not been enabled in your kernel. Check in your /usr/src/linux/.config for AFAIK this line: CONFIG_BLK_DEV_FD, if floppy suppport is enabled it should say : CONFIG_BLK_DEV_FD=Y, if it's not active it offcourse states N instead of Y.

Now how would that command mount a floppy disk? sda1 is generally the first partition on the first HARD DRIVE...

mount /dev/SDA is for mounting a sata disk. sda1 is the 1st partition on a sata disk. So it's not applicable to this thread. The correct way to mount a floppy would be : mount /dev/fd0.

Ust: Have you managed to solve the problem yet, or are you still recieving errors, and if so, what problems are you experiencing?

If you ever successfully mounted a floppy that way, please explain how you did it.
