mount: error 6 mounting ext3

Hi All,

I hav a problem loading into my linux box.

Let me tell u the full scenario ...I hav a Linux Box in which i hav Win98 as my active partition and Linux in my extended partition.I installed Linux in my box with the IDE as Primary slave. So i hav WIndows in hdb1 and Linux in hdb2 which means /boot is hdb5 and / is hdb6 and /swap is hdb7.

Now after finishing my installation i was able to enter my Linux box using a boot disk as i had installed LiLo in First boot record.

But after installation i recognised that my IDE was in primary slave and so wanted to convert it back to primary master.I did the same and when i boot into Linux using the boot disk i get this following message and the kernel panics...

mount: error 6 mounting ext3
pivotroot: pivot_root (/sysroot,sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
freeing unused kernel memory: 304k freed
kernel panic: no init found. try passing init=option to kernel

I can recognise that there seems to be some problem with initrd
,but am not clear with the solution to this problem...can anyone help me out with a solution to this.....

Cheers,
Naresh

Modify the /etc/lilo.conf to match the new partition layout, afterwards run lilo

Hi,

Should i use cdrom to get in thru rescue mode and change the device settings in lilo.conf as /dev/hda bcos i am not able to move into the linux box thru the boot floppy...

But it says a kernel panic with not able to mount ext3 partition...

Can u please help me out with a full explanation on reasons and a clear solution...
