Unhappy Mount a Linux filesystem under windows 7

I have a question that surely has a simple answer, despite what Google says.

I have a windows 7 computer. I want to mount a windows directory on a linux machine and vice versa.

To start on the linux machine.

I am using

Mount -t smbfs -o username=peter,password=bingo //192.168.1.8/video /media/winbox

Where...
192.168.1.8 is the IP address of the windows computer, video is the share name of c:\video on the windows computer, /media/winbox is a directory on the linux machine.

I can ping both ways. the username and password are correct. I turned the firewall off on the windows computer.

I am using Knoppix 6.2 booted off a dvd disk.

The error I get is mount error(13): Permission denied.

On windows I am entering \\192.168.1.10\winbox and I get Windows cannot access \\192.168.1.10\winbox Check spelling.

Any ideas?

Peter

I think you have to use cifs instead of smb for Windows 7:

sudo mount -t cifs //192.168.1.8/video /media/winbox -o username=peter,password=bingo,iocharset=utf8,file_m ode=0777,dir_mode=0777

Alas still getting Permission denied.

I can't see the Linux machine at all from Windows when I click on Network. Why is that? Even my neighbour's mac shows up when she is secretly using my internet. Why does Linux not just work like these other 'broken' OS's?

You will not be able to write to a live CD like Knoppix. Knoppix uses KDE 4 right? You should be able to open Dolphin, open the places planel and mount the "Local disk" from there.
