Smile motorola sm56 modem


I use Suse linux 6.3 ,and the motorola sm56 internal modem is installed on port ttys3(com 4) .but linux does'nt recognise it ,
and gives a message that the modem is busy the driver on motorola website supports kernel 2.4 only what should i do?
