Motherboard Driver setup for Linux

How do you setup your new drivers for you motherboard, Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3LR, in Linux or Ubuntu?

linuxlover.chaitanya 09-07-2009 03:51 AM

What drivers do you need? Usually your Ubuntu will load all the drivers automatically and you should not need to worry about it.

No Sound

Find your audio controller name and let us know. You can do it either from linux or windows

What distribution are you using? You probably need to tell more. What application? You might not have alsa configured.

That is what I have. I hear the sound through headphones but not my speakers and I know I have the Jack plugs right in the back off the motherboard.

linuxlover.chaitanya 09-07-2009 04:25 AM

If you can listen to something from headphones, there is nothing wrong with the drivers. Where do you connect the headphones? And where do you connect the speakers? Disconnect the headphones before connecting the speakers and then see if you can hear something.

Did that give you any info that you wanted on my sound card?

So its not an issue with the sound driver. Did you try plugging both speakers and headphone in the exact same jack?

wizzo50 09-07-2009 04:27 AM

How do you configure Alsa that you mentioned?

wizzo50 09-07-2009 04:33 AM

No I didn't. I am not even sure what all the Jacks are for. There is 8 jack holes and I know that 2 of them are for the headphone and Microphone. Which of the others I don't get any sound from them at all.

linuxlover.chaitanya 09-07-2009 04:38 AM

In some of the machines like one I have, there are jack ports in the front and back. But if I connect headphones in the front, I wont have any sound from the speakers connected in the back.

wizzo50 09-07-2009 04:39 AM

Mine are all in the back. Well, I am going to bed. Maybe later at wizzo49@yahoo.com if any answers. Thanks

The green one's for the speakers

i92guboj 09-07-2009 05:15 AM

Well, if you are not even sure you plugged the speakers in the right place there's not much else to look at until you do so.

Secondly, unplug the headphones while testing. As has already been said, some combinations will disable any other output when the headphones are plugged.

Third, and very important, use alsamixer or any other mixer program to make sure that all the levers are up and non-muted.

As has already been said, there's nothing wrong with your drivers if you can hear any sound in your headphones. Also, forget about the cdrom that came with your motherboard. 99% of the manufacturers never put anything for linux on that cdrom. That's windows-only stuff most of the times.
