most stable gcc release
 

Hi,
I would like to know which release of GCC can be considered as most stable. I know that newer releases like 4.0.2 have been designated as stable, but still I still get quite a few errors while compiling from source. I mean in the 3.x.x series, there was a release, which I'm sorry I can't remember, gave the best results. I'm on Intel machine, and would really like to know the best version that I could opt for. Thanks

My "stable" boxes are using 3.4.4
