Mono error message using wine

Hello
I just installed wine in an attempt to open .exe files. When running the code line
/wine/file.exe
the following message appeared:
wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables

I tried out two things, both of which didn't work and the message still appears every time I try to use wine

1st: yum install mono-core.i686
It is the Mono CIL runtime, suitable for running .NET code

2nd: downloading mono windows version from the original website but still couldn't install it because it is an .exe file

Thanks for any help!

mono is the linux-version of the .NET-framework. to make windows-applications that use the .NET-framework work in wine you have to install the windows-version of mono (=> the .NET-framework ) in wine.
mono is required to run programs that are written in a .NET-language (such as C#, VB# and others) on linux (only versions 1.1 and 2.0 are currently supported).

you have to install the .NET-Framework from the mocrosoft-homepage. But afaik it doesn't really work (i do always get an error-message when doing that). Please tell me if it worked (and how you did it).

and wine is used to run windows program under linux

so do this to install

Quote:
wine windowsprogram.exe

You are both wrong!

You install the Windows version of Mono in Wine, not in Linux! How on earth do you think the Windows app will access Mono that's installed in Linux? M$'s .NET would probably work, too, but I think that Wine suggests Mono because it's open-source.

Wine translates Windows calls to Linux/X Window System calls and redirects all file operations to a folder in your home dir called .wine/drive_c, which acts as the Windows file hierarchy. To run a program in Wine, use this command:

Code:
wine /path/to/program.exe
