I am looking for some program that i can run to monitor a Debian server. Now i have looked about for on the internet for such and have come across Munin and Monit, but i am looking for one that has the ability to proactivally send SMS or e-mails to notify about any issues that maybe going on. I have seen that Monit can send SMS but i would like to know if there are any out there i may have missed that people can recomend?
Thanks, i would need it to do both. The team here is not really one that mans the desk all the time. There are only two of use in today for instance. So SMS would be something needed as well, mail is good and is why i liked Munin (as well as the features it has meeting other needs).
I will keep on looking...
Will have to admit i had to Google PITA but is is what i assumed it would be... Have just looked into Nagios and as you said it does seem geared for multiple servers, so its going to go into the maybe pile. But yeah thank you for the suggestion.
If you have a number of servers to monitor, you might look at Nagios. It's a bit of a PITA to set up, but well worth it if you have multiple servers.
Hi,
If you want to install, configure and use Nagios the 'easy' way then have a look at Groundwork. Comes with an easy installer, handy web interface and great looking portal.
