Monitor Woes. Changing monior at localhost login?

I have a MAG 770fs monitor that I am having problems with when I'm using Red Hat 9. It cannot startx and I'm stuck at the localhost login screen. A second computer works with no problem since it has a Samsung SyncMaster 591s.

I have been wanting to use Red Hat Linux 9 on my main computer for a long time now but the monitor is the problem. I want to plug in the MAG 770fs on my Linux machine so I can test run and troubleshoot it. I can't seem to find any MAG 770fs Linux drivers on google so I want to change the monitor to the closest one.

The monitors listed at the installation screen as I have noted down included a MAG 770v and MAG 770t.

Is it possible to change the monitor at the command prompt (localhost login)? If so, how is this accomplished using commands?

I'm a Linux moron btw.

Just choose the Generic Monitor 1280x1024 that best matches the specs of your Mag 770fs;

FYI: RHL9 is old and not well supported and as a matter of fact was EOL'd over two years ago by Red Hat. As a suggestion try using a supported version in the Red Hat Linux family like Fedora Core 4/5 or CentOS 3/4 for example;

http://fedora.redhat.com/

Failing that visit http://www.fedoralegacy.org/ and learn how to download/install and use yum to bring the RHL9 current.

or just edit the Monitor section of your X config file to meet your monitors specs
