monitor shuts down when opening games
I am not entirely sure where this belongs since it could have many causes.
I am new to LINUX and have just installed the free personal version of SuSe 9.1 to test it. After successfully resolving display issues like too small fonts and fitting the display to the screen and such, I am now experiencing problems when I try to start a game like ENIGMA or Arcade -> Bubbles. At first the screen shuts down as if it would to change the display resolution but then it does not come on again. The small diode is blinking, indicating standby, as if the monitor does not get a signal from the graphics adapter. I'm sitting in front of a black screen but when I hit the ESC button I'm back on the KDE desktop and everything's fine. The monitor is a Relisys te786b and the graphic adapter is a S3 Savage4. The system's probing resulted in a max resolution of 1280x1024 at 16 bit color depth. And that's also my setting for the desktop. Anybody got an idea how to solve this problem and get the games running? thx. K. |
hi there
since u r at 16 bit, cannot aford to go below so try reducing ur resolution also how much RAM do u have regards gaurav |
Well, the installation now is the second attempt to get LINUX running.
In the first installation, before any adjustments were made, the games had been running alright. ( I fucked it up somehow cause the same probs with black screen occured directly after starting LINUX and I couldn't fix it because I could not see anything). So I think the RAM is not the problem... but it's 512 MB regular RAM and ~200MB swap file. I tried reducing the resolution to 600 x 800 and 768 x 1024, both with 16 bit color depth but neither worked. K. |
