Monitor Resolution Trouble

I just recently installed Ubuntu 10.10. I have a Compaq W17q monitor. For some reason I can not change the resolution to anything well uh not freakishly large. I only have two options to choose from 800x600 and 640:480. It's showing up my monitor as "unknown". I tried to "Detect Monitors" but nothing happened.Any suggestions on how to fix my resolution?

The problem is related more to identifying the video card than the monitor. Do you know the manufacturer of the video card/chip in your computer?

You might want to install the Linux driver from Intel for that chipset.

Poke around in that web page. I just did a quick search.

Make sure that you read the included README.TXT file. It may be helpful. If you're lucky it will include instructions to install the driver.
