Question Monitor problem - Fedora 3 problem

Hello,
I am getting a problem with fedora core 3
Last time i used fedora on my pc i set the graphics card to 1600 x1200 and my minitor can't work with it so it just says Out or range.
can i change the linux monitor thing while im starting linux before it loads the main bit? Without reformatting

You certainly can.

You need to boot into run-level 3, which is easily done by typing a 3 into the boot options. This will give you a terminal login, no gui.

You can the login as root and edit the xorg.conf file using pico, nano or vi. Your choice. You can then change the resolution from there.

I think xorg.conf is in /etc/X11/ but have a look around.

Hmmm,

Sorry, I don't run fedora, but when you boot up do you get a grub / lilo boot loader so you can choose which OS etc you want to load?

If so, then you can type a 3 before you choose to boot Fedora.

Otherwise, your other option is to use a live cd and mount your root partition and edit from there. I suggest Knoppix or damnsmalllinux.

mkdir /mnt/rescue
mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /mnt/rescue (substitute correct filesystem)
cd /mnt/rescue/etc/X11
pico xorg.conf

adjust to your needs.

try mount -w -t [fstype] /dev/hd** /mountpoint

that will mount it read/write and remember to edit the file as root
if the file is still read only, then change permissions with chmod
