Monitor going to "black" when Ubuntu is idle.
 

I have Ubuntu/Gnome set to "never" in the "brightness & lock". However, when the computer is idle for a period time (how long I don't know) the monitor is going to "black". Of course, all I have to do is press any key to continue. So, where are all the places to look into to "turn off" this function?

I have everything I can find set to "do not suspend" and "never". I do not/can not find anything referring to "preferences". I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and primarily using Gnome 3.6.x. So I do find anything else that relates to "blanking" the monitor when idle for a specific period of time. So unless there is something else that I can check, or do, I guess I will just have to live when this.

There should be an icon on the bar that says "system settings". Another way to get it is to click the icon on the top right of the task bar used to shut down. In that menu is also system settings. Under system settings go to Brightness and Lock and make sure "dim screen to save power" is off as well as "set screen off when inactive" to never.

I believe you said you took care of the power settings, you can double check them using the Power section of system settings.

Is the computer a desktop or laptop?

In Ubuntu 12.04, launch "Dash home" > Type "Setting Manager" > And there you can find options for "Screen" or "Power Management".

I use Gnome not Unity.

I do not find any of the things mentioned. No "setting manager", no SCREEN or POWER MANAGEMENT option, no DIM SCREEN. Under system settings - BRIGHTNESS and LOCK ... I have "turn screen of when inactive for" set to NEVER. Under system settings - POWER ... I have "suspend when inactive for" set to DONT SUSPEND. If there is any more additional settings somewhere I don't find them.

I clicked on your link and it didnt take me anywhere, but I saw the thread ID so I searched for it in the Ubuntu forums, I found it there and I posted the link of the post#2 here.

I haven't try that solution yet but I also find annoying when the power saving black screen kicks in when I am trying to watch a movie in VLC or other movie players.

That doesnt happen to me in Ubuntu though It does in SlackWare, and in Arch. It also used to happens in OpenSuse 12.1 with Gnome, but is fixed in OpenSuse 12.2
