Monitor down! Monitor down!

nooooo!!! My dual monitor no longer works. I downloaded the new patch for my video card and apparently the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 and Linux do not like each other?

1) Should I just remove the driver?

2) If I did would the old driver pick up because although it had a few
faults, at least I could use both monitors after a lil
engineering

3) If I were to remove the driver, where would I do it from?

System --> administration --> hardware drivers is another way to look at your drivers. I found my sound, disabled them then I went into my system --> preferences --> display and it opened up the NVIDIA driver window(which is disabled) and it would not allow me to go back to the window for my display preferences that i have used up to this point. It works better though. What I am trying to figure out is

why can I not access the first display window I used directly after I installed them.

and why, if I Have un-installed the NIVIDIA driver, does the NVIDIA driver display window allow me to change its features? does this make sense?

Synaptic might not pick it up if he used the nvidia drivers, as in sh NVIDIA-Linux.... Though when you download the new ones and run the installer it should automatically remove the old ones (well more or less the current ones on the system). As I always use nvidia's drivers and not the proper debian way (because it works more often than the debian way), and so I cannot just use synaptic. Really what I should do is extract the drivers, manually config/make and install, then i could do a make uninstall. Whatever though, the drivers work...

On a side note, have you tried to re-run the nvida-settings? Maybe you just need to re-initialize the settings? I have an 8800GT and everything works fine on my end. =X
