Monitor Disk Mounts

What is the best way to detect disk mounts?

I'm setting up a system to automatically detect disk mounts, so I'm looking for a file or something where disk mounting is recorded.

There are several files that look promising, but I am a LINUX novice, so I don't quite understand the exact roles each play:

/etc/mnttab
/etc/rmtab
/etc/dfs/sharetab

Of the above files, etc/rmtab looks most promising.

Any suggestions or help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Watch /proc/mounts ? That's a real-time view into the kernel

I guess that automounting is using HAL + dbus
