Moniter button/speaker control

Hello I'm a here, and have a frustrating problem, out of nowhere, my moniter/speaker button won't turn on/off the moniter nor will it turn my volume up and down. When I try to turn up the speaker on my taskbar, it just slithers back down. Why is it doing this???
Thanks!!
Kathy

Welcome to LQ,

and how is this a Linux-Question? :)

I'd think you should ask a hardware-guy
from the shop around the corner ;)

Cheers,
Tink
