Moment of truth... Installing Linux!

I'm about to install Fedora Core 3... How long will the install take, and, if the install is anything like RedHat's, its extremely user-friendly, right?

I'm kind of nervous... It's been a while since I installed Linux...

What are a few things I should remember, like bootloaders(?) and crap? :Pengy:

backup first

If your nervous and not sure what your doing, and you have a stable system that your using regularly now, why not just go and get your self a cheap secondary system that you can do anything you want to it and have no fear? Or just make sure you have a good back up before proceeding. Enjoy

Well, for the secondary, I'm dirt poor, and without a ride, as I'm only 14, but there's not really anything valuable to me, other than music I can get over again and a few files for my site I can just remake. But, why would I need backups? I'm using a seperate partition for Fedora, what could go wrong? *scratches head*

Just do it

You are the one that said you were nervous. If you have nothing at risk, then who cares, just do it.

I wasn't the files, but the GRUB/LILO stuff... Well, here I go... How long would it take?

lethargo 12-08-2004 09:39 PM

It's been awhile since I had Fedora on my box. I'd guess the install would take somewhere around 45 minutes to an hour? I could be way off, though.

Hmm... I gotta go to sleep for school soon, I'm gonna do it tomorrow after school. Thanks everyone! :)

enjoy

have fun - one comment (IMHO n00b opinion) is that separate partition is safe, but separate HD is safer, that is the way I made my SuSE 9.1 install recently and it took less than an hour and was flawless...
