Module for Realtek 8169


Hi all,

I am quite new to linux and I installed on lenovo thinkpad SL500 and i read that the hardwares goes well with Linux bur cannot connect to internet. My ethernet card is Realtek 8169 8168 8101E 8102E Ethernet Driver does red hat have a module for 8169, Can you help me, i really need to connect to the intrenet.

The module that you require is '8139too.ko', load it like this (as root):

Code:
# /sbin/modprobe 8139too
You can see if it detected the card by running 'dmesg'.

Not quite, the module is 'r8169' and is available in newer kernels.

Ah yes, sorry, I misread the model. You are correct r8169.ko.

Yep, available since 2.6.18. If my experiences with CentOS are anything to go by, I would think that it is still missing from RH5. However, you can grab the driver from the realtek site and install it manually.
