Unhappy Modem Troubles

Hello.

I have just installed SuSE Linux 7.2 Personal alongside WindowsME on my laptop (I had to use Fips 20 to shrink the Windows partition). Everything works fine except that my modem won't connect and there is do /dev/modem file!!!! I read in the SuSE help center that Linux does not support internal modems which is what I have (Lucent Win Modem). It suggested writing a driver for the modem by oneself. I do not have any experience in programming in Linux so can anyone tell me if either they can write a driver or where I can download one??
Help would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks

tux9

P.S. Fips is great!!

go to www.linmodems.org - i know that there's a few lucent winmodems that are supported, so you might be in luck.

...did the help center actually suggest that you write your own driver ?
