Modem Problems
Hi, I have Mandrake 10 and i went to add a new connection and it said "see linmodems.org" So i looked at it but i dont know what to do and why it wouldnt let me install the hardware. Can anyone help?
Heres info about my modem: Chip Number: MD5628D-L-A Chip Description: intel V.92 HaM Modem I also have other problems with mandrake but ill tell you them later! Thanks! :newbie: |
You have what's commonly known as a 'winmodem'. These aren't supported by Linux out of the box.
You should search Linmodems.org for a driver for your modem, and it helps that you know the chipset - this should make your search a lot easier. If you can lay your hands on a serial modem, your problems will be greatly reduced. Also, if you've got an ADSL connection you shouldn't have too much trouble there either. |
try an external modem. they not all that much, maybe $30 (US). Or get highspeed. I recently made the jump and is well worth it.
