Hi, I have Mandrake 10 and i went to add a new connection and it said "see linmodems.org" So i looked at it but i dont know what to do and why it wouldnt let me install the hardware. Can anyone help?

You have what's commonly known as a 'winmodem'. These aren't supported by Linux out of the box.
You should search Linmodems.org for a driver for your modem, and it helps that you know the chipset - this should make your search a lot easier.

If you can lay your hands on a serial modem, your problems will be greatly reduced. Also, if you've got an ADSL connection you shouldn't have too much trouble there either.

try an external modem. they not all that much, maybe $30 (US). Or get highspeed. I recently made the jump and is well worth it.
