Modem not recognised

:newbie:

Hi guys,

Have installed Mandrake 9.1 recently using the grup loader, and dual booting with XP.

Having a slight problem with getting connected to the net in mandrake as it says my modem isnt supported.

U.S Robotics Internal 56k. I'm not sure how to go about loading the drivers for it. Do i just put the CD in which id use in windows? Or do i need to download a specific Linux driver for it.

Please help, as its becoming the bain of my Linux experiance.

TIA.

Andy

What program are you running
and what is the exact error message
What is the exact make of the modem

Check out http://www.linmodems.org/
They can probably help you out.

Your modem is probably a winmodem, and it probably isn't supported in linux. The linmodem site has a tool for you to make sure. Some winmodems work in linux, most don't (don't think any usr ones do). Your best bet for a working modem is an external non-usb serial modem.

i guess u.s. robotics modems use conexant chips, so you could check this out:

Good luck!!
