modem help plz

Greetings. I am definitly a linux newbie. I have just successfully installed Redhat 7.1 on my machine.

Redhat is unable to detect my windows modem which is a Lucent Win modem.

I am wondering if someone can give me some guidance as to how I can get Redhat to locate and use this modem.

Have you tried http://www.linmodems.org/ ?

I installed Linux about a month ago, and I have a US Robotics win modem, which won't work under linux. :-( Hopefully u'll have better luck!

Yeah i did check out that site. But, well, it lead me to another half dozen sites... and basically I got very confused.

I was hoping someone could say straight up Yes or No and if so...what I have to do.

- type 'lspic -v' at the command prompt. it will give some extended info on the winmodem you have. Lucent is one of the few vendors who has released source code to support thier winmodems, but only a range of them are supported. if you post the output pertaining to the Lucent winmodem, i can tell you whether or not it's supported.

one note: you might need to be root to run lspci
