modconf not working, no modules

I installed Debian Woody with some hassles, but got it working somehow.

uname tells me this: 2.4.18-bf2.4

So I think I have kernel 2.4.18 running.

My problem: I can't run modconf. I get this error:

/lib/modules/2.4.18-bf2.4: No such file or directory.

And indeed, /lib/modules/ only contains 1 dir named "2.2.20", so I guess something is wrong?

irks; believe thats in System Administration and Configuration of http://tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX section 4.2 with subsections 4.2.1,
4.2.2,4.2.3,4.2.4, 4.2.5 and 4.2.6. maybe more than you need but could always have some thing handy.
