Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family X window problem

I have installed Redhat 9.0 on my Dell Inspiron 6000. I was forced to use the text install because X windows doesn't seem to recognize my Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family video driver. I think it has something to do with the shared RAM. Anyways, I can't get linux to start up now and all I get is a grey fuzzy screen. Does anyone know what settings I need to change?

That's a hard one to answer given the limited info you've provided. However, you can always fall back on the VESA driver (max of 1280x1024) until you can figure out the problem with your current driver.

thats the problem.... the Vesa driver doesn't work with the intel chipset, all I get is a grey fuzzy screen. What more information do you need?

Well, relevant portions of your xorg (or xfree if that is what RH9 is using) log might be a good place to start. It should be located in /var/log.

HI, may be redhat 9 does not recognise the intel 915 chipset. But once u install in text mode pls go to intel.com and download the intel915GM driver for redhat 9. Then it should be fine. U can configure using setup tool :)
