Mixer cannot be found

When I switch to another user, I've got KMix icon crossed with a red cross and tooltip Mixer cannot be found. Although the volume test in YaST plays ok, I cannot use my audio player (XMMS). Is it possible to have KMixer on both simultaneouly logged on accounts?

You probably need to add the new user to the audio group? You may run into issues with both users trying using the mixer simultaneously though...

I followed your adviced and added all users into audio group (it was empty before). It did not solve anything. Any other ideas?

Using YaST. Something like Security & Users and then opened system groups and added users. Sorry I am in XP at the moment. I will add more details when switch back into Lunux.

Does anyone know what to do? It is really annoying when you cannot have sound after switching between the users.

Did you ever find a solution to this problem?

I'm experiencing the same problem, have admitted all users to same audio group, have ensured all /dev/mixer files have all user permission, I get the test sound in YAST soundcard config, yet still the red cross on the Kmix icon, no mixer available and no sound in amaroK or elsewhere.

Got me foxed...

Kaine.
