Missing menu items after adding packages using mandrake 9.2
I added some packages to my system after I installed Mandrake 9.2. The packages were some games and tools. When the installation was done, most of my menu items were missing and I could not access the file manager. I'm using the KDE environment. Even when I log into gnome, I still can't access the required menu items. The only menu items available are a few tools and games. I have no access to any configuration tools or the terminal.
I'm new to linux, so I'm in the process of learning. What else do I need to do after adding packages? can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks |
In the "run command" dialog box or at a command line in a console type "update-menus -v" without the parenthesis
There probably wont be a return, just wait about a minute, then see if it worked. |
I was able to access a console in Gnome and "update-menus -v" worked.
All my menu items including the new programs that I installed are present. Thank you very much! |
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the exact same problem and I had found only one way to fix it, re-installing M9.2 (a clean an smart solution), this was like the third time it happened so I was gonna ask for help here so thanks; anyway i wonder why it happens, must be like a bug or something, but it would be good to know and try to fix that |
You always have access to a terminal. Hit ctrl+alt+f1 or f2 or f3 or f4 or f5 or f6
F7 gets you back to the x session again. |
Very nice terminal shortcut.
Much appreciated, pzatch. |

here's how i solved it. after installing pkgs go into menudrake choose menu style and then select 2nd option-all applications - click ok then save then exit. refresh the desktop and there you go. i felt so bad for you when you said you reinstalled man 9.2 that i signed onto this forum just so i could give you a little help. i am also new to linux and it took me forever to figure out how to fix this. everyone have a great day 8-) |
