missing graphical user interface in mandriva

I have mandriva 2005 LE and i have encountered this problem before. The last 5 times that i have booted up linux, it (what seems like to me) is boots up without any gui. once it has booted up, it is like i am command line onlly. It first asks me to login then for pasword. 1 am in then it just stays command line. I just came home now and booted it up, and it worked fine. To me it seemed like KDE wasnt loading or something. I recall having this problem a couple years back while running mandrake.

thanks for your time

When you are dropped into the command line, you have to type "startx" for a gui to start. I am not sure why you would have a graphical login and then a text login when you reboot. It could be some problem with your login manager but I am just speculating.
