Hi,

I think the worries are justifiable. Once you cripple or disable the LAN within the host or client there should no issues.

I still have bench systems that will use Xp in a limited fashion because I do not want to upgrade hardware to a newer platform but I still need access to the older hardware. Will I worry? Not really, since my Server, LAN and machines are isolated and protected as best as possible. Will I direct connect a Xp open to the Internet? No! I have other OS and machines for that.

Is this something I can do, while using a linux client? Disabling the LAN made MintMade unable to access the web, which became apparent as soon as I tried to install the downloaded .iso with my LAN disconnected. The other two entries under LAN are "Virtual ethernet Adapters", created by VMware player. Those still said "connected" but they were of no use apparently! I had to enable the original one, in order to access the web. I can provide more information on the connection that mintmate is using, if that is at all useful.
Thanks!

Thank you. It turns out the 32 bit Linux OS is running much better. Until your comment, I was not getting much encouragement that that can make all the difference. It did!
