Mint Package Manager. Where does it install to?

Hi,

I'm just starting out with Mint 8 and am running it in a virtual machine with Sun VirtualBox so I can access files on my XP box.

What I'm stuck with is where does the package manager install a package to. I installed, via the package manager, PHP but then got stuck with where it was. Looked at the properties on the package in the package manager and there was a big list of directories.

So my question is: How do I know whats gone where?

Do I just have to look in each directory and see whats there and work it out like that or is there a cunning location/file/... that will tell me whats gone where so I can configure it and the other packages that I want to use it, in this case apache.

I have looked on the Mint website for info on the package manager but couldn't find anything. And a google didn't turn up Mint info.

Thanks, RB

Mint is a Debian derivative as such it uses deb packages. You can find out where the files of a given package live by using 'dpkg -L'. For example:
Code:
dpkg -L php5-common
To find out information for a given package you should read the documentation which is in /usr/share/doc/packagname. For example:
Code:
cd /usr/share/doc/php5-common
zless README.Debian.gz
