minimizing apps

hi,

There is a software that when you minimize an application(say teminal) it is not going to be in the panel but instead on the desktop, where it would have the maximize and close options. do any of you guys know what the software is called?

thanks

Most window managers come with a "window shade" option, which minimizes the window leaving just the title bar on the desktop. This might be what you are looking for. If you post which desktop environment you are using (KDE, GNOME, XFCE, ...), I could be more specific about this.

You are thinking of the window manager called Windowmaker. See
http://www.windowmaker.info/

When you minimize a window it becomes an icon on the desktop.

You might also be thinking about the Enlightenment window manager. It does something similar, but you have to see it to understand it. Google them both and see if maybe they are installed on your system, or if you can get them.

Good luck.

We need to know what distributin of Linux you are using. If it is Fedora, it is a rpm file; if Ubuntu, the whole proceedure is different; etc. Generaly the best way is to look at the webite of your distribution, and read about package management.

What are you using?
