mingetty question...

I'm trying to get the --autologin feature on mingetty working. The problem is that the 'password' prompt is displayed. I've downloaded the source (v1.0.7) and it build with no problem. Also, the entry in inittab is

1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty --autologin user tty1

Looking at the source, it appears mingetty simply passes the information to /bin/login using the -f option. I tried typing 'login -f user' from a command line and the 'password' prompt is displayed. Does this mean that I need a different version of 'login?' If so where is the source located? I think I could disable the password for user, but I would prefer not to.

Thanks in advance for your response,

FYI:
This issue has been resolved. I needed to modify the login.defs file in order for it work.
