Migrating Windows Email Server to Linux Server

Hi,
I am not very good with linux. I am presently trying my hands on Mandriva for my email server. Before now, my email server has been running on Windows 2000 server and for some administrative reasons, I would want to migrate to Linux Machine using Mandriva as my OS. I realy do not know what to do and how to go about it. Can any one assist me?
Thank you very much.
Fred

You should read up on a couple MTAs and pick out which one you think is the easiest for you to handle. A couple packages are sendmail, exim, postfix and qmail. I personally like exim the most. Set up a test environment and have fun .

I don't know exim, but the postfix site (www.postfix.org) has plenty of howtos from the MTA to pop/imap servers, to web mail and virus/spam filtering. I'm sure the other MTA's have similar info. Personally I use postfix (if you hadn't guessed) after hearing that it was easier to configure than sendmail (which I think it is).

Also, perhaps have a look at http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/, for amavisd-new, a content filter that interfaces with at least sendmail, postfix and exim to link virus (eg clamav) and spam (eg spamassassin) filters to the MTA.

Good luck.

Simplest linux email setup can be found at http://qmailrocks.org

The site walks you through every step of setting up a mail server with antivirus and spamassassin. So easy even brand new linux people can do it.

Peace,
