Question Migrating users to a new linux box

Hi,

I am trying to migrate users from RHEL3 WS to a new Fedora8 box. I have duplicated user accounts of RHEL3 into the Fedora8. Now I wanted to create passwords for each user. I want my users to do it themselves. Is there any script that can help me on this ( I am looking for a web based solution as my users are not so computer literate). Now, the important thing is that, user passwords on both the servers should be the same (ie, the script should work on both servers simultaneously). There are some 90+ user accounts.

There is no problem with the mail boxes, as I have mounted them to the new server using NFS.

Can anyone suggest a solution for this.

There is another way to do this (you just have to be a little careful)...

If you open the file /etc/shadow you can see a hashed version of the password for each user - the file uses colon separated columns, and the sequence of characters in the second column is the password hash (system accounts usually have * or ! in this column). You can make a copy of the new server's shadow file, put the hashed passwords in for the accounts, and copy the file back.

Obviously, do check the SELinux context and permissions for the file afterwards, and don't do this on a live server!
