microsoft active directory alternate in linux world

dear gurus,

i found samba as domain join service and print sharing, i am looking more then this

i have been looking any commercial or open source solution available as alternate of active directory. as we are all aware that AD infrastructure is highly complicated.

the main issue we need to resolve is

- password policy for all users 90 days expiry
- use complex 9 chars policy
- assign permission/groups file/folder sharing
- account lock
- 3 attemtps fail lock wrong password
- citrix also work based on terminal service and active terminal license has to purchase all this work behalf of AD only
- we have servers in branches where our AD replicate, anything we change on master AD it copy to all members BD/secondary servers

in fact mostly feature available as individually linux. but we need to bring under single roof where policy, roles, rules, users, groups, permission can be assign similar to AD concepts.

what is the technical name in linux of active directory services?

can some one put and share ideas docs. how people do such tasks.

in fact we are having few linux servers and major in windows we are looking alternate how best we can achive this.

kind regards
salim

You can use LDAP and NFS combined for this purpose.I havnt configured myself but we have linux clients authenticated via LDAP and NFS as our our shares and to keep our profiles .Its a general idea.We replaced our AD setup with this
.
